Kansas City parents do everything they can to protect their children. They make sure they put on helmets when they go out for a bike ride and tell them to fasten their seat belts before they back out of the driveway. Parents even go the extra mile to research the best schools or day care facilities to make sure their children are always in good hands. Unfortunately, there are some hazards that parents cannot predict and have no control over.
One of these situations happened last week in Kansas City. An 80-year-old driver lost control of his car and slammed into a parked vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to go crashing through the wall of a nearby business — a day care center that was caring for 40 children.
The car blew through the wall of the day care center, leaving two children pinned underneath it. A third child was also injured in the crash. Fortunately, rescue teams were able to free both children. All three survived but needed medical treatment.
After getting word of the car accident, one mother rushed to the day care facility. Four of her five children were at the facility when the crash occurred. Her 5-year-old son was one of the two that ended up pinned under the car. The child suffered a broken hip in the incident.
While it is fortunate that all of the children survived this crash, those whose children were injured may have a hard time covering the costs of medical treatment. Repairing a hip fracture is expensive, especially when you have several other children to provide for. However, anyone who has ended up in a situation like this should know that there are options for legal recourse. As we have discussed before, a negligent driver can be held accountable for damages caused and injuries sustained in a serious crash.
