MOTORCYCLIST IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER CRASH WITH CAR

Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable people on the road. Without the metal frame of a car, air bags and seat belts to protect them, motorcyclists often suffer serious injuries in a crash. Sadly, one Kansas City motorcyclist is desperately trying to hold on after being hit by a car less than a week ago.

According to police, the Tuesday morning motorcycle accident happened at Rockhill Road and 63rd street. Although few details are offered, they said a car hit the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and is in critical condition at a local hospital. The driver of the car did not want medical treatment.

Unfortunately, motorcycle accidents like this one are not as uncommon as they should be — and too often the motorcyclist gets blamed. Many drivers try to argue that motorcyclists choose to drive unsafe vehicles and therefore put themselves in harm’s way. The truth is, however, that motorcyclists are allowed to be on the road just like any other motorists.

Everyone on the road is responsible for driving safely. Motorcyclists, cars, commercial vehicles and even pedestrians must be vigilant while using Kansas City roadways. Looking both ways, obeying traffic laws and generally driving cautiously can do a lot to keep our roads safe. When a driver fails to do this, however, and causes an accident, a motorcyclist — or anyone else who is injured — may have grounds for a personal injury lawsuit. A successful lawsuit could result in compensation for medical bills and other damages.
